Description

There was enough interest in doing the "one shot anthology" again that we are holding another one in October! (After this one, we might limit this to a once-a-year event, so this could be the last one for a while).

All of the stories will be on the theme "colony". For preparation, you can do all the brainstorming, plotting, outlining, notes, mind-mapping, world-building, research, and character sketching you like. But all the writing (and editing!) for the final product will be done on that day.

Any length of story is okay. Last time we averaged around 2000 words per person (which was a lot more than I was expecting).

Use whatever writing implements you prefer. (There will be about 25 of us, so we probably can't guarantee enough outlets).

The actual writing will be divided into several timed "sprints" during which we just output words as fast as we can. Sprints are separated by short breaks.

There will be a couple rounds of editing, but authors get the final say. When you are editing someone else's work, don't erase words from the original. Don't bother with big structural suggestions (there isn't time to rewrite the story). Just look for sentence level changes and simple fixes.

The finished product, typed up and edited, has to be submitted the day of the event (Sunday 21) before midnight. There will be a simple online form provided for that purpose.

If you like, you can also provide an author's note with your story. You could talk about if you are happy with how the story turned out, or what you might have done differently if you had more time, or where you struggled, etc.

If you don't want the story in there, it doesn't have to be. Or you could use a pseudonym.

The final stories will be compiled, formatted, and published on Amazon. Everyone involved gets a copy of the finished eBook. Here is a link to look at the last one we did: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1999403924

If you have any questions/comments/concerns/etc, please ask. The more things we can clarify in advance, the smoother it will run on the day of the event.

Hi,

Our meeting location is at 519 Church Street Community Centre(Church Street just north of Wellesley. Nearest subway station is Wellesley Station), at Room 301. You can ask the information desk about the location of the room because on rare occasions based on the center's programs the room might change.

The meeting starts every SUNDAY at 3 p.m. with mindfulness meditation which is calming and soothing. Then we will discuss different aspects of social anxiety, anxiety and other questions raised by members. Everybody is welcome to participate, but if you feel anxious, there is no pressure to take part in the discussions and you can just observe. This is a friendly environment for shy people and we do our best to help each other in any way possible. Many good friendships have started in our group.

Please if you can afford it make a small donation to the group at the end of the meeting by putting it in the donation box on the table. Also if you can, bring a snack to share with other members.

The meeting ends at 4:30. After the meeting, many of our members go to a coffee shop to socialize. Tim Hortons coffeeshop is located at 56 Wellesley St W Unit 104. You are welcome to join us there.

See you

Four moon topics for your enjoyment:

If you haven't seen it yet, I can recommend watching the Dear Moon video, this is by the Japanese group that is paying SpaceX for a flight to the moon, soonest possible date 2023 or so. It's really inspiring.

There is also NASA's Lunar Gateway, the building of which is the main purpose of the SLS right now. It's said to be an important part of getting to Mars safely. Is it a waste of time?

The Chinese have moon ambitions as well. With their big rocket explosion last year, things seem to be going slowly now.

The Google Lunar X-Prize has ended, without a winner. But some teams continue to struggle on, and they are looking fo a new title sponsor? Why did it fail, and can it be made to succeed?

Don Valley if a really great trail for those that want to get into hiking in the city. The trail if really easy and you will get to see a different parts of the city. It is one of the only trails in Toronto that is a mix of real urban and nature. As we will walk you will notice how quite the trail can be and at other times you will see the high moving passed us. Other points alone the away the path will seem tight and narrow but with a turn, it will open up into a hidden park that you never was part of the city. This trail is what urban living can be if it is made it really understanding and intention....Come out and see the sounds of the City. This event I will need your phone number. Description

Contempt is a brilliant and unsettling work by one of the revolutionary masters of modern European literature. All the qualities for which Alberto Moravia is justly famous—his cool clarity of expression, his exacting attention to psychological complexity and social pretension, his still-striking openness about sex—are evident in this story of a failing marriage. Contempt is an unflinching examination of desperation and self-deception in the emotional vacuum of modern consumer society.

A scientist drinks a potion that gives him a formidably different personality.

Robert Louis Stevenson's short novel, published back in 1886, shocked Victorian viewers; it shocked Stevenson himself, who persuaded his wife to burn the first draft. (He was inspired by the real-life case of a Scottish parson who chose to moonlight as a highwayman!) And it's provided a field day for psychologists ever since.

Our location is the Dora Keogh Irish pub near Broadview station.
